More than 15 years of experience developing advanced software to support offensive and defensive cyber operations led Matt Wyckhouse to co-found Finite State in 2017 to focus on the unique challenges of cybersecurity in the IoT era. Matt spent most of his career at Battelle, the world’s largest private R&D company, where he was the technical founder and CTO of Battelle’s Cyber Innovations Business Unit. In this role, Matt oversaw dozens of intelligence and security programs supporting strategic global missions, many of which were focused on discovering vulnerabilities in IoT and other embedded devices. Through that experience, he saw how devastating IoT device attacks can be, which is especially concerning given the explosive growth of IoT. Matt has a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University.

Andrew is a seasoned software engineering leader with expertise that spans the areas of Security, Big Data, Cloud, and DevOps. He spent over a decade working within the U.S. Defense Department where he bootstrapped and evolved game-changing SIGINT collection, analysis, and command-and-control platforms, successfully integrated them into the larger ecosystem, and coalesced teams around them. He subsequently joined Bridgewater Associates where he variously overhauled and bootstrapped initiatives focused on security analytics and controls orchestration while simultaneously fostering a DevOps culture centered on AWS technologies. Earlier positions provided him a diversity of experience across academia, industry, and government. He holds a BSE in Computer Science from Tufts University as well as an MSE in Computer Science and an MS in Security Informatics from the Johns Hopkins University. He is as happy shaping platform-level architecture decisions as he is getting his hands dirty writing code, but also appreciates time off for good behavior to swim, ski, and rock climb.
